Background
The Southside Rotunda is located on the southern bank of the River Clyde. The building once served as an access point to a tunnel for crossing the river and is linked to an identical rotunda located on the north bank. As the tunnel is no longer in use, the building has become derelict. It was my aim to bring it back to popular use by turning it into a centre for storytelling where tales of Glasgow’s past can live on.
An independent structure, inspired by the cranes that once lined the banks of the Clyde, supports the main theatre space. Visitors enter the building beneath the slopped seating creating an experience which mimics the journey into the Clyde tunnel.
