Prince's Dock Hospice
year 4

Background
Located between the Govan dry docks and the Prince’s Dock, I created a design narrative that imagines the delivery of precious cargo by boat. As the most important part of the hospice the bedrooms represent this ‘cargo’. Each small pitched volume contains two bedrooms and sits on the edge of the dock as though it has just been lifted off a ship into position. The bedrooms have small private courtyards for the patients which benefit from southerly orientation. Treatment rooms are located in close proximity to the bedrooms and communal and public spaces are contained within a large brick clad volume. A change in level on site allows direct, private access to first floor staff areas and a family suite. Hydrotherapy treatment rooms occupy the void of a former pump-house, accompanied by sunken courtyard.
